The Basics 

An ankle is made of three bones: tibia, fibula, and talus. An ankle fracture is a break in one of these ankle bones and is caused by sports injury, falls, car accidents, or direct trauma.

Signs and symptoms 

Some symptoms of ankle fractures or dislocation includes severe pain around the ankle after injury, swelling, bruising, a limited range of motion, inability to bear weight, and weakness. ​

Treatment

Basic treatment includes imaging and a physical examination to determine the severity of the injury. Depending on the severity, your provider may recommend wearing a brace or future surgical intervention.
